New 'stealth' speed cameras could increase the need for convicted driver insurance
The Highways Agency have recently announced the planned the deployment of new “stealth” speed cameras across 300 miles of the UK’s busiest motorways, potentially creating increased demand for convicted driver insurance. The new cameras, thought to be responsible for up to 600 parking fines across one small stretch of the M25 in just two months, recently, are nicknamed “stealth cameras” because they’re painted grey, instead of the more standard, and highly visible fluorescent yellow.
These new cameras are part of the Highways Agency’s plan to upgrade hundreds of miles of the UK’s existing “smart motorways”, with the objective of monitoring and enforcing variable speed limits. After consultation closed on an upcoming planned deployment on stretches of the M1 in South Yorkshire, the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce commented that the cameras “Should not be a revenue-raising tool, nor seen as such”.
A spokesperson for the Highways Agency said “Variable speed limits on smart motorways are designed to smooth traffic flow, improve journey times and reduce congestion for millions of motorists while at the same time maintaining safety” If you’ve been caught by these new speed cameras and are worried about increased car insurance premiums, then don’t worry, get a convicted driver insurance quote from us today.
