New Honda NSX Coming To the UK
The second generation of the second generation Honda NSX was recently revealed at the Detroit Motor Show. This news comes after 25 years after the launch of its stupendous predecessor, with the company working on an even faster NSX Type R to be released at a later date. This all new NSX is manufactured in the United States and will be produced in Marysville Ontario in the new Performance Manufacturing Centre. The 2015 NSX will be badged Acura in the US, which is Honda’s posh avatar in the US like Infiniti is to Nissan and Lexus is to Toyota. It will however be called the Honda NSX when its gets to the UK this summer at a cost similar around the £100,000 mark which is in Audi R8 territory.
The original NSX was produced in Japan, and went on sale in 1990, with an R variant added to the lineup in 1992. The NSX Type R was a specially modified vehicle that featured a lighter body and stiffer suspension. It arrived without any air-conditioning or stereo, and outfitted with titanium gear and forged alloy wheels in an effort to drive down its weight. The new NSX closely resembles the original Honda NSX with the same mid mounted V-6 engine and a lightweight structure, but that’s where it ends. The new Honda NSX is fitted with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that powers all four wheels, and an ultra firm carbon fibre floor complete with a new multi material body, which collectively reduces body flex.
One of the noteworthy aspects of this new powertrain is its 75 degree, twin turbo charged V6 that is designed to power a unique dual-clutch, nine speed, automatic gearbox. Adding to this, the sports hybrid system of the new NSX features three electric motors, one assigned to each of the front wheels and another to bridge the gap in the event the engine levels spool up. The all new 2015 Honda NSX features three onboard power systems – “Agile Handling Assist”, which forces the brakes on the inside of the front wheels to enable the car to be more responsive and faster when turning, “Super Handling All-Wheel Drive”, which enhances steering and throttle inputs and ham-fisted braking to steer and maintain the vehicle in the right direction and an “Integrated Dynamic System”, which is a four mode interface that allows driver’s to select the vehicle’s character. With insurance costs expected to be high, it is advised to look at high performance car insurance or motor traders insurance if you are in the motor trade.
Measuring 4470mm in length, 40mm longer than the original NSX, the 2015 NSX boasts the world first aluminium casting process that combines the perks of both forge and cast components. With regards to the body panels, they are crafted from a blend of sheet moulding composite and aluminium. The braking system puts the new Honda NSX in a league of its own with carbon ceramic disks complete with four pot callipers at the rear and six pot callipers at the front.
Honda will not reveal the actual power out of the vehicle until it nears its launch this summer, but did claim that its maximum power output is a staggering 550bhp!
